Mike Lowther is a Professional Geologist and Chartered Engineer with 35 years experience in the minerals industry.
He has worked as a mining geologist in Zambia, UK, Saudi Arabia and Ireland, and has held senior technical and production management roles in several Irish mines. He has worked in project evaluation in a number of countries including China and Saudi Arabia.
Mike has active research interests, including at the moment serving on the External Expert Advisory Board for Real-Time Mining, a major research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, set up to look at the strategic supply of raw materials to Europe.
Since 2005 Mike has been Chairman of the Irish Mine Rescue Committee, which co-ordinates mine rescue in Ireland north and south, and which works closely with the Health and Safety Authority to publish standards and guidelines for mine rescue activities.
